Question: New Skill Line for Melee Paragon
Alright, this is by no means extensively thought out, so I'm hoping for discussion more than /agree or /disagree.
I think that the Paragon's potential is limited by the ranged-only Spear attack arsenal. With 80 AL anyway and the excellent ability for personal or party-wide support, Paragons are/could be perfectly capable of frontlining. Strategically speaking, in PvE or PvP, a frontline Paragon still using many of the shouts that the class and the Warrior class have could be excellent. However, with the ranged-only spear attacks, Paragons are more likely to use Aggressive Refrain, knocking their AL down to squishy level, and spam ranged spears plus adrenal skills for support.
Spears, realistically, are more likely used for close combat anyway. The spear is a fine weapon and Spear Mastery a fine attribute, so adding attack skills could be done under this category. Spear Swipe was introduced in GW:EN, making Paragons using it have to hustle to the frontline (or even to the middle or back of another team's setup to daze a caster), but without sufficient other melee ranged spear attacks, they're going to move back to midline.
At any rate, I think it would be a fun way to play and I think it would not only make the class more diverse, but would give it an option to play in settings where a "party support" player is not desired or needed as well as making it generally more versatile.
Thoughts?

Well adding in melee skills is kind of an interesting twist on Para skills. However, who would want to be in the front lines when they can be safer at the back? Whatever melee skills that could be added to the arsenal, it will have to be more beneficial than being a ranged spear thrower and more than likely, it will make that skill overpowered.

I feel [wiki]Spear Swipe[/wiki] is a great skill, a little more to go along with it instead of just the [skill=text]Iron Palm[/skill] and [skill=text]Awe[/skill] combo would make it even better.

First of all who knocks their AL to squishy level? I always have a shield and centurions on my armor. Also what you're saying just sounds too much like a basic warrior build with shouts. Paras can play offensive too, just isn't liked as much as imbagon.

Heh-I've toyed with the idea of changing my W/P DSlash/SY build to work on my para and bring TNtF lol. Never done it, but the idea still tickles me.
And I agree with you-realistically spears are a melee weapon (and I do know this from personal experience-I know how to fight with a spear ). But Kobey is right-nothing is really stopping you from throwing your spear at close range lol.

I made a build like that. All in all, imbagon is better.

It's a neat idea, but to be honest I'd rather some good Roman Centurion helmets to replace those silly crests that the Paragon has now, as far as Paragon changes go.
I'd also like an armour set from 300 >.>

Somethin I thought about:
Focused Anger
Brawling Headbutt
Steelfang Slash
Awe
There's nothing to Fear
Save Yourselves
Never tried it, just an idea. Should be able to keep "SY" up most of the time. Daze on a 10 sec recharge. You could add Blazing Finale + another shout with "They're on Fire" for more damage reduction.

Did you miss the ROMAN CENTURION part?
Anyways, the 300 set (cape for chest, thong for legs, etc) would be a great set for the Paragon.

Interesting idea Cathode.
However I would say it might be a problem with both Brawling Headbutt and SY! Both are fairly high adrenaline.

hmmm it costs 1 adrenaline to use brawling headbutt.
Steelfang slash costs 1 adrealine but returns 10 with focused anger
So at this point you should have about 8 for Save yourselves which costs 1 adrenaline
you hit once more than u have enough adreanline for steelfang because you would get the aderaline back from itself.
SY and brawling doesnt seem all that hard to keep up unless your blinded or whatever.
To add to that build that cathode posted i would also use "FGJ" and aggressive refrain.. assuming that you have at least 12 leadership..
Brawling headbutt -> steelfang slash -> Save youselves for those that cant understan my broken english
